VulpeFrom StormNexusVulpe: Can not breed outside their own race. Deep in the forests of Mellus, live a race of fox people known as the Vulpe. They live amongst the forest creatures, seeking out a modest existence as archers and craftsmen. A nimble, mischievous people, they stand about the same height as an adult elf, with long luxurious fur, and spend their days hunting, playing the occasional trick on another being for their amusement, or exploring. It isn’t often they leave the forest, but when they do, they refuse to hide their heritage like some more xenophobic races do, being especially proud of their ancestry. Vulpe do tend to be somewhat skittish and spook easily from loud noises and other similar things. Do not confuse this with cowardice however, Vulpe are as brave as most folk, just their mantra tends to revolve around the idea: “He who runs lives to fight another day”, with that another day being as soon as a few minutes later in some cases. Those Vulpe who do venture forth from their homes often times bring with them the craft of their people for sale to the common folk. Being very shrewd businessmen, they are exceptionally fond of bargaining with the common races for their goods, and then convincing other folk to buy them for a marked up price. The arrows they bring with them for defense are seen by most to be of superior quality, as are the bows they craft to fire them, but the gifting or selling of such weapons is considered a grave taboo as the spirits of the forest are said to inhabit their bows. As such, few, if any bows of Vulpe make can be found not belonging to the Vulpe. The Vulpe as a people managed to avoid large-scale enslavement from the Katarious due to their ability to hide, and reliance on guerrilla tactics in deterring the spider-folk. However the occasional Vulpe was captured, and used as glorified pet by whatever master held them, but due to their inability to breed with other species and the small number ever captured, only the most informed and learned citizens of the empire knew of them. Vulpe away from the forest not engaged in selling their products are considered "exiles" to their people and are shunned by “true” Vulpe. As such, these exiles have no real allegiance, though they consider Daemons and Anar'lum to be abominations and an affront to the natural world they live in. They can however, upon approval of their chief, return to their clan and pay their dues, in order to return to a "normal" Vulpe status within their village. |
