The Shae: Can not breed outside their own race.

Cat-like creatures – Distant relative of the widespread black panther. The Shae survived many years in the rich forests unknown to citizens of Mellus.

A new race found in Mellus. Only few have ever been seen. The Cal-Ray dwarves are the most familiar with this unusual race but still have little knowledge of their history.

The small kinfolk that remain lurk deep within the forests of the Cal-Ray Mountains. These remarkable creatures are extraordinarily friendly among their own yet very cautious of strangers. Not easily trusting are these beautiful cats; thought of as shy as they keep their distance from most. If one were able to earn that trust they would end up with a very loyal companion. Their calm nature and willingness to work for food has been welcomed by the people of Cal-Ray as household pets and a form of cheap labor. This non-threatening attitude has lead many to believe this naive race is unscathed by the plight of man, abhorrence, gluttony and confrontation.

It should be said that they're a very secretive race, and that no one has ever been able to track them in their forests, nor find any that did not want to be found. It has been whispered, among the dwarven folk of Cal-Ray, that these marvelous creatures can not be seen by the naked eye. They move with the elegance of a gentle breeze. Leaving not a hint of a foot-print when they move has earned them the nickname phantom cats. That would explain why the Katarious never knew of them.

Their curious nature has brought few into the open to explore the vast lands. As existence presses on and the residents of Cal-Ray cultivate in smaller quantities the Shae grow to be forlorn. These nimble, quiet creatures travel in search for familiarity of the serene times once known to them.

The Shae that realized that they were being used as they were have let their curiousity get the best of them, and have found their own home away from the Cal-Ray dwarves, living as "free" beings. These Shae are banished from the lands of Cal-Ray, though at the same time many of them believe the exile to be more of a salvation.
